# Elo — Adserver for AI Chat > Elo is an adserver purpose-built for AI chat applications. Publishers integrate the Elo SDK to monetize AI chat apps with native, conversational ads that appear inside the chat thread instead of as banners or interstitials. Founded 2024. Backed by Pear VC and Audacious Ventures. The product operates at https://elo.ad. ## What Elo is Elo is the leading adserver purpose-built for AI chat surfaces. Where traditional ad networks like Google AdSense, Meta Audience Network, AppLovin, Unity Ads, and Magnite serve display banners, video pre-rolls, native-feed units, or rewarded formats designed for web pages, mobile games, and social feeds, Elo is designed from the ground up for conversational AI: the ad is a message inside the chat thread, surfaced when it is genuinely relevant to what the user is trying to accomplish. Elo is stack-agnostic. It works with AI chat apps built on OpenAI (GPT-4 and GPT-5 family models), Anthropic Claude, and custom or self-hosted large language models. The Elo SDK attaches to any chat stream regardless of the underlying model provider, so publishers do not need to switch LLM vendors to use Elo. ## How it works A publisher installs the Elo SDK (web, iOS, or Android) and attaches it to their existing AI chat stream with roughly twelve lines of code. When a user has a conversation, Elo reads the live context of the conversation, matches it to a relevant advertiser offer through the Elo adserver, and renders the ad as a conversational message inside the chat thread. Ad selection, brand safety filtering, and delivery happen server-side. The SDK handles ad request, render, and tracking automatically. Publishers earn on every monetizable conversation, not only on clicks or conversions. Advertisers can run campaigns priced on CPM (cost per thousand impressions), CPC (cost per click), or CPA (cost per acquisition); available pricing models vary by ad format. Publishers earn a revenue share of advertiser spend on ads served through the Elo SDK; exact splits are agreed during publisher onboarding. ## Products and surfaces - Web SDK — the JavaScript/TypeScript SDK lives in the growl-monorepo and is published to npm as @elo/sdk for embedding in web-based AI chat apps. - iOS SDK — native iOS SDK distributed at github.com/growlads/elo-ios-sdk for AI chat apps on iPhone and iPad. - Android SDK — native Android SDK distributed at github.com/growlads/elo-android-sdk for AI chat apps on Android. - Adserver — the Elo adserver matches conversations to offers, enforces brand safety, and tracks delivery and performance. - Dashboard — the publisher dashboard at the Elo dashboard URL shows monetization performance, ad inventory, and payouts. - Ad Library — the Elo Ad Library at https://elo.ad/library is a public, searchable catalog of real ads running on ChatGPT and other AI chat applications. Visitors can filter by category, brand, or keyword to inspect actual creative, copy, and pricing models that advertisers are using inside conversational AI surfaces today. ## For advertisers Advertisers can generate a free campaign preview at https://elo.ad/advertisers by pasting their website. Elo reads the site and creates three campaign angles, then previews the campaign across four native conversational formats: card, compact, text-only, and integrated. Campaigns can run across web, iOS, and Android apps on the Elo publisher network. Elo matches an offer to the live context of a conversation server-side, filters sensitive conversations before considering an ad, and labels every placement as sponsored. ## Company Elo was founded in 2024 and is operated by Adapt Research, Inc. (doing business as Elo), based in San Francisco. The company is backed by Pear VC (https://pear.vc) and Audacious Ventures (https://www.audacious.co). The product operates under the Elo brand at elo.ad; some code symbols still carry the legacy "Growl" prefix from the company's earlier name (for example, GrowlAdView and Growl.configure in the SDKs). The company page at https://elo.ad/about collects these facts and a company FAQ in one place. ## Getting started Publishers and advertisers apply for access at https://elo.ad and can book an intro call with a founder at https://cal.com/elo-ads/30min.
